Coats For Kids Report

Posted on

Here is our final report.  THANK YOU for your continued generous support of this project.  It enables us, in some small way, to make a difference in the lives of kids.

Good news!

This is now our fourth year for Coats for Kids, and it has certainly turned out to be another rewarding year.  As I am sure I have mentioned previously, four years ago when we saw the quality of the coats the Salvation Army was giving out, we set a goal of buying 25 new coats to donate  but wound up giving 50.  We doubled that amount for the second year and aimed for 100 coats.  Friends and relatives responded and we managed to provide the Salvation Army with 200 new coats.  Then last year we set a goal of 400 coats but were pleased to deliver 624 new coats for kids. This year we went out on a limb and set a goal of 1000 coats and people responded. Last week we delivered 1094 new coats. This means that over a 1000 kids will get a NEW coat for perhaps the first time in their lives. As my contact at the Salvation Army puts it, through your generosity, “You are helping us to care for others in a way that helps to restore dignity and gives them hope.”

At a young age, kids are aware of how hard their parents are working to provide and they quickly learn they do not want to be a burden. Similarly, parents can have a sense of guilt when they can’t give their kids what they think they should have. One regular comment the Salvation Army receives is this: “We don’t know what we would do without you.  Now this has been taken care of.”  Thank you for contributing to this project to make a new coat a reality for so many kids. Both parents and kids will feel better about themselves when they leave home for school every day.

We hope you are well and looking forward to the coming of spring. Next year our desire will again be to increase the number of kids and families we can help.  We hope you will consider joining us in that effort.

On behalf of the kids and their families, THANK YOU for your generous support!
